CHAMPIONSHIPS
DATE - 2nd December 2023 Host - BELMONT 16ft SAILING CLUB The wind was very light and variable with rain at times during the morning prior to the scheduled racing. A postponement was signalled on-shore at 1:00pm. By around 2:00pm, the breeze was slowly settling in from an easterly direction at around 3-7 knots. By 2:40pm, the breeze had settled in from a direction of 100 degrees at around 5-8 knots and the start boat which had gone on water requested that the postponement flag at Club be lowered. A start line and course was set up and a start for the 16ft skiffs scheduled for 3:30pm. Further rain clouds started to move in from a westerly direction. A warning signal was sounded for the16ft skiffs at 3:25pm, however, with the onset on the rain, the breeze again showed signs of dying and becoming variable as the rain set in. A postponement flag was raised at 3:25pm. With little improvement in the conditions, a decision was made by the race committee to abandon the race at 3:40pm. |
